About me

Early Career

Musical Training and Self-taught Learning in Audiovisual Editing (2001-2017)

I was born and raised in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico (June 5, 1999). At the age of two, after showing rhythmic coordination, my parents enrolled me in the Conservatorio de las Rosas, where I studied until I was eighteen. I began with piano, later specialized in drums, and ultimately completed my studies with a focus on musical composition. During this period, I also learned to play various instruments such as guitar, bass, marimba, xylophone, melodica, and harmonica. My compositions were performed in the cities of Morelia, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.

At the age of twelve, my father bought me my first laptop, which allowed me to explore YouTube. With a webcam and the basic editing software Movie Maker, I began recording video blogs inspired by the creators of that time. This hobby grew into a deep interest in the possibilities of audiovisual media, leading me to teach myself Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop. In parallel, I started making short films with friends, as well as music covers that I uploaded to the platform. During this stage, I also became interested in acting. Thanks to my brother, who was in his first year at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), I obtained a role in a one-minute film shot on 16 mm titled "La mano peluda". However, once on set, I realized that my true passion was behind the camera.

Growing up in a small city like Morelia, access to formal film education was limited. The International Film Festival of Morelia, the largest in Mexico, became my primary exposure to quality cinema. Attending every year during my teenage years became a ritual that strengthened my fascination with cinema’s ability to move me, particularly after watching About Time (2013) by Richard Curtis and Macbeth (2015) by Justin Kurzel.

During this stage, I found inspiration in various filmmakers who marked a turning point in my perception of cinema: Shinichirō Watanabe, Alfonso Cuarón, Guy Ritchie, Paolo Sorrentino, Nicolas Winding Refn, Akira Kurosawa, Sam Raimi, Richard Curtis, Danny Boyle, Steven Spielberg, and Fernando de Fuentes.

Bachelor’s Degree in History – UMSNH (2017–2018)

After completing my technical studies in musical composition at the Conservatorio de las Rosas, and failing my first attempt to enter the CCC, I enrolled in the History program at Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. This experience reshaped my perspective on the social and historical context of both Morelia and Mexico as a whole. I discovered how, much like cinema, history in Mexico is heavily centralized, often ignoring what happens in smaller cities and states.

It was during this time that I learned about Michoacán’s role in the emergence of Mexico’s first student movements of the 1960s, the first repressions of such movements, and consequently, the formation of the country’s first guerrilla groups. There is a vast amount of regional history outside the capital that is rarely taught, yet speaks to the origins and constant struggles of communities, particularly Indigenous people, who remain invisible to this day.

Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design – UNAM (2018–2020)

After not being admitted to the CCC for a second time, I decided to study Art and Design at UNAM in Morelia, as a way to stay close to the audiovisual arts. This program allowed me to explore different artistic perspectives through painting, sculpture, drawing, and hypermedia art, which gave me a stronger foundation as an audiovisual creator. I also met peers who shared my interest in filmmaking and encouraged me to continue producing and directing my own short films.

Bachelor’s Degree in Cinematography Specialization in Directing – CCC
(2020–present)

In 2020, I was finally admitted to the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica. This institution has provided me with a new vision of cinema, shaped by the mentorship of professors such as Juan Mora, Elisa Miller, Everardo González, Alonso Ruizpalacios, and Carlos Carrera.

Throughout the program, I have strengthened my skills as a director and worked across every department of a film crew, gaining valuable experience both in collaboration and in the discipline of shooting on 16 mm and 35 mm. During this period, I edited the feature film Devil’s Pitch (in post-production) and the short film Aguacuario (2023), which was selected for the Generation section at the Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2023 and 2024, I began directing music videos. These projects gave me the opportunity to experiment with different audiovisual techniques and narrative approaches, exploring expressive tools that I later incorporated into my short films and fiction projects.

At the end of 2023, I directed my first short film within the CCC, 5 Steps (for a Farewell), starring Eduardo Minett (Cry Macho, 2021). The film will have its world premiere at the Morelia International Film Festival in 2025.I am currently working on my first documentary short, Guerrero de la Torre, which tells the story of a homeless man wandering the streets of Morelia. His mental decline is the result of torture he suffered at the hands of the army in the 1970s, when he was part of a guerrilla movement. This project seeks to recover and preserve local histories that are vital to our collective identity.

In addition, I continue to work as an editor on various projects, including music videos, short films, and commercials.
